Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust provides healthcare in hospital and the community to 258,000 people across Southport, Formby and West Lancashire.

Acute care is provided at Southport and Formby District General Hospital and Ormskirk and District General Hospital. This includes adults’ and children’s accident and emergency services, intensive care and a range of medical and surgical specialities. Women’s and children’s services, including maternity, are provided at Ormskirk hospital.

The North West Regional Spinal Injuries Centre at Southport hospital provides specialist care for spinal patients from across the North West, North Wales and the Isle of Man.

The Trust also provides sexual health services for the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton.

Following the remodelling of our Orthopaedic services, we have a fantastic opportunity for applications for a substantive Specialty Doctors to join our existing hard working and highly motivated team.

This is a post suitable for an enthusiastic doctor looking to progress their career in Orthopaedics. We have had past doctors use this post as a stepping stone as part of their career in Orthopaedics. As a member of the department, you will be guided by a team of experienced and approachable Associate Specialists and Consultants. Your duties will encompass both acute and elective orthopaedics over 2 hospital sites. This will include 2nd on call responsibilities, the documentation and day to day care of patients, attendance at ward rounds, multidisciplinary meetings, theatres and clinic.

The post holder will have access to F2/ST1/2 level junior doctors who are on the 1st on call rota. There are Foundation Doctors on the unit who deal with routine ward care. You would be expected to participate in the teaching and supervision of the work and duties of the junior doctors in training

The Orthopaedic Department services a community of 230,000 across both Southport and Ormskirk districts running a hub and spoke model with the majority of cases treated locally and complex cases referred to regional units. Services are provided across two hospital sites; Southport & Formby District General Hospital and Ormskirk & District General Hospital.
