This is an exciting opportunity to join the developing Medical/ Surgical Speech and Language Therapy team at Southport and Ormskirk NHS Trust.
We have new funding to expand our team. You will join a small team of Speech and Language Therapists based at Southport District General Hospital, providing a service to dysphagic medical / surgical patients throughout the acute hospital setting.
You will be responsible for the assessment and management of patients with dysphagia in a wide range of hospital specialities including frail elderly and respiratory care.
We are looking for a therapist who also has some experience working with patients with dysphagia associated with tracheostomy and we can offer you the opportunity to develop more independent working skills in the Critical Care setting and also in the Regional Spinal Injuries Unit, managing patients with tracheostomies (and ventilator dependency). We have regular videofluoroscopy clinics and can support you to further develop your skills in this area.
This is such an exciting time for you to join our small Team – we have recently appointed a Consultant Speech and Language Therapist and she will be setting up a FEES service here at Southport hospital. There is also a Stroke Speech and Language Therapy team in Southport Hospital and there will be an opportunity for you to maintain your communication therapy skills by working on the Stroke Team as the caseload permits.
We are a friendly, forward thinking and flexible team. We strive for high quality, evidence based assessment and management, and we always put our patients first.
We meet regularly with our neighbouring Community Speech and Language Therapists for Journal Club and to ensure the seamless transition of care.
