Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust provides healthcare in hospital and the community to 258,000 people across Southport, Formby and West Lancashire.

Acute care is provided at Southport and Formby District General Hospital and Ormskirk and District General Hospital. This includes adults’ and children’s accident and emergency services, intensive care and a range of medical and surgical specialities. Women’s and children’s services, including maternity, are provided at Ormskirk hospital.

The North West Regional Spinal Injuries Centre at Southport hospital provides specialist care for spinal patients from across the North West, North Wales and the Isle of Man.

The Trust also provides sexual health services for the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, innovative and experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our Frailty, Medical and Surgical Team at Southport Hospital.

Southport Hospital provides inpatient care which includes Frailty and General Medical / Surgical.

The post holder will work as part of a friendly and supportive multidisciplinary team delivering a service to in-patients with a range of acquired swallowing difficulties.

There will be opportunities to work flexibly at times to support the Stroke Therapy Team as required.

The successful candidate will have a keen interest in service development and will provide supervision to junior members of staff.

You will receive regular supervision with the Clinical Lead SLT and there will be opportunity to contribute towards and receive regular in-service training within the multidisciplinary specialist team.  There will be opportunities to be part of the inpatient SLT Video-fluoroscopy service.


The  therapy service is a friendly and supportive place to work and you will work alongside experienced Speech & Language Therapists who will also supply the post holder with operational management.

Applicants must demonstrate within their supplementary information how they meet the essential and desirable criteria as we use this to short list.

You must have:
• Recognised Degree in Speech & Language Therapy or equivalent
• HCPC registration
• Dysphagia clinical courses or equivalent
