Job overview

Due to new funding made available by the local Cancer Alliance, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, hardworking and motivated Dietitian, ideally with experience in UGI cancer, to join the Dietetic Team at Southport & Orsmkirk NHS Trust. The successful applicant will be working as Clinical Lead within UGI, alongside the UGI Cancer Nurse Specialist and wider UGI Network of Dietitians within Cheshire and Merseyside to establish an UGI Rapid Diagnostic Service (RDS) and implement the Cheshire and Merseyside Cancer Alliance Optimal Oesophago-Gastric Pathway. Reporting on outcomes at the end of the 12 months will be required. There are protected audit sessions within the role. We are looking for a dietitian with strong communication, and team working skills and a desire to develop skills in nutrition support. You will be supported by the dietetic lead in the area with excellent opportunities for professional and personal development, involvement in audit, service evaluation and research within your clinical specialty. You will also  participate in the delivery and supervision  of   Practice Placements for P2 and P3 Students in your defined clinical area.

Main duties of the job

You will be required to set up clinics and Dietetic pathways, establishing systems for assessing, monitoring and measuring outcomes, providing high quality, evidence based advice and education to our patients, continuing work on identifying local services to support patients and exploring and implementing processes for the UGI RDS.

The successful applicant will be an integral member of the UGI MDT alongside being able to work autonomously to provide high quality nutritional care and demonstrate highly developed specialist knowledge. Particularly in the areas of complex enteral feeding, use of modified diets and fluids and managing effects of anti-cancer treatments are essential.  You will be flexible, reliable and self motivated. The successful applicant will require excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  An enthusiasm for service improvement and clinical audit are vital. 

You will also be required to work within the Dietetic team in assisting in the operational management of the department.

The North West Regional Spinal Injuries Centre at Southport hospital provides specialist care for spinal patients from across the North West, North Wales and the Isle of Man.
