Band 8a Matron, Theatres

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Professional within the Planned Care Clinical Business Unit and we are in a position to be able to offer out to the right candidate the role of Matron in Theatres, including the Preoperative service on a permanent basis.

As part of the management team within Planned Care your role will be fundamental in developing the focus of the patient experience and the quality agenda. This role will be pivotal in the planning, implementation and delivery of specialist pathway services across both our Theatre Suite teams at Southport and Ormskirk hospitals.

The Matron will be working closely with the Directorate Manager for Theatres to deliver key performance indicators and to achieve on service delivery.

Main duties of the job

 As the post holder you will be ‘visible’ and recognisable to staff, patients, relatives and act as a ‘champion’ for quality and equality of extremely high standards and patient care, not only within the Trust and but to act as lead nurse for the care of patients within the Theatre teams.

As the Matron for Theatres you will be responsible for the implementation, monitoring, training and audit of all high quality standards in line with the Association of Perioperative Practice guidelines and recommendations. In particular the Matron will be responsible for patient safety, experience and infection prevention and control measures within areas of responsibility, along with supporting service improvements ensuring patient safety and quality of care within these processes.

The service covers all aspects of Emergency Surgery, Orthopaedics, Gynae, Maternity, General Surgery, Urology and Ophthalmology, so this is an exciting post for the right individual.

Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust provides healthcare in hospital and the community to 258,000 people across Southport, Formby and West Lancashire.

Acute care is provided at Southport and Formby District General Hospital and Ormskirk District General Hospital. This includes adults’ and children’s accident and emergency services, intensive care and a range of medical and surgical specialities. Women’s and children’s services, including maternity, are provided at Ormskirk hospital.

The North West Regional Spinal Injuries Centre at Southport hospital provides specialist care for spinal patients from across the North West, North Wales and the Isle of Man.

The Trust also provides sexual health services for the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton.
