Job overview
We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our team in the position of Consultant Physician with an Interest in Stroke Medicine at Southport and Ormskirk District General Hospital.
You should have MRCP and be on the General Medical Council’s Specialist Register or within six months of completing a Training Programme recognised for the award of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) within 6 months of interview.
This post is subject to Enhanced DBS clearance with both children and adults barred lists.
All applicants must be either on the GMC Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining their CCT award at the time of interview
Main duties of the job
The 20 bedded Acute Stroke Unit at Southport and Ormskirk District General Hospital which includes expansion of our hyperacute stroke services, the post holder will support the stroke team in providing a specialist service. The successful candidate will be supported by a well-established, dedicated stroke MDT and a stroke specialist nurse. We are also supported by trainees from the deanery and an excellent admin team comprising personal assistants & medical secretaries.
To support service needs the post will work across two sites in addition we provide outpatient services at both Southport and Ormskirk sites, including General Medicine / Stroke & TIA Clinics.
The Stroke Ward is based at Southport District General Hospital and an expectation of this post is to carry out inpatient ward rounds and board rounds.
Participation in the Telestroke on-call rota is currently in place. An on call intensity supplement which is payable.
Working for our organisation
Acute care is provided at Southport and Formby District General Hospital and Ormskirk and District General Hospital. This includes adults’ and children’s accident and emergency services, intensive care and a range of medical and surgical specialities. Women’s and children’s services, including maternity, are provided at Ormskirk hospital.
The North West Regional Spinal Injuries Centre at Southport hospital provides specialist care for spinal patients from across the North West, North Wales and the Isle of Man.
The Trust also provides sexual health services for the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton.

- Basic Medical Qualification
- On the specialist register with a CCT in General Medicine and Geriatrics or within 6 months of achieving this

- MSc, MD or PhD
Knowledge

- Knowledge and experience of General Medicine and multidisciplinary Geriatric Medicine.
Training Expected:
Essential criteria
- Extensive training and experience in General and Geriatric Medicine in an accredited training programme.
