An opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Hand Therapist (Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist) to join the Therapy Outpatient Service at the Trust.

 About us

We are an innovative Therapy Outpatient Service – coproducing with the population we serve to deliver the Best MSK Health outcomes and services. We take an active role in supporting our staff through supervision, case discussion and training in many different formats.

Main duties of the job

You must have experience and skills in the assessment and treatment of MSK hand conditions and proven clinical skills based on evidence-based practice – especially in the outpatient setting.

The successful candidates would work across the organisation and be confident to loan work.

The post holder must have excellent communication skills and be committed to CPD. You will be working alongside experienced Physiotherapists, Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioners, Assistants, Rheumatology OT and MSK Drs. You will manage your own caseload so need excellent time management skills.

Acute care is provided at Southport and Formby District General Hospital and Ormskirk District General Hospital. This includes adults’ and children’s accident and emergency services, intensive care and a range of medical and surgical specialities. Women’s and children’s services, including maternity, are provided at Ormskirk hospital.

The North West Regional Spinal Injuries Centre at Southport hospital provides specialist care for spinal patients from across the North West, North Wales and the Isle of Man.

Essential criteria
  • Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy/ Occupational Therapy
  • Current HCPC
  • Evidence of current Hand Therapy qualifications or equivalent

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Shared decision/ coproduced/ personalised approach - what matters to me the patient
  • Knowledge and scope of own practice and when is the correct time to escalate. Clinical reasoning and treatment skills.
  • Ability to work automounly in the hand setting
  • Expertise and knowledge in the field of MSK hands
  • Awareness BEST MSK Health Programme

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of experience working in Therapy Outpatient setting autonomously
  • Knowledge and experience of MSK hand presentations
  • Further study / equivalent - MSK hand therapy
