Working for Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust offers all the benefits of coast and country living with the convenience of big city life.
We have miles of unspoilt coastline on our doorstep, attractive commuter towns, picturesque villages and stunning countryside all within easy reach. Excellent transport links mean the vibrant, historic city of Liverpool is only a short journey away. Shops, bars, restaurants, museums, galleries, a World Heritage listed waterfront and, of course, two Premiership football teams makes this a destination for travellers from across the world.
The University of Liverpool has awarded us the status of University Clinical Education Centre in recognition of the high standard of training provided for students on placement to the Trust.
We pride ourselves in providing safe, clean and friendly care, and recruit to our SCOPE values. We also offer a range of family friendly options to staff. You can see what some of our staff have to say about working with us and learn more about our area and what we do by clicking on the youtube videos in the 'further links' section.
Please note that all successful applicants to non-medical positions will be subject to a six-month probationary period.
Southport & Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust
Applications are invited to join the Consultant Gastroenterologists at Southport and Ormskirk NHS Trust to expand an already established Gastroenterology Service. Applicants need to be enthusiastic and dedicated to delivering a high quality and expanding gastroenterology service including inflammatory bowel disease, chronic liver disease and the full range of diagnostic and interventional endoscopy. Sub-specialty interests in inflammatory bowel disease or liver disease would be accommodated. The Department has inpatients at Southport Hospital and a small endoscopy unit but an excellent purpose built Treatment Centre on the Ormskirk site where all diagnostic endoscopy is undertaken.
Applicants would be expected to be JAG accredited in upper and lower GI endoscopy and have evidence of a comprehensive experience in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine. Applicants who are trained in ERCP would be encouraged to help deliver this service which is currently delivered by the gastroenterologist and a surgical colleague.
The Department is supported by highly experienced Nurse Endoscopists capable of managing upper GI bleeds and colonoscopy, an Inflammatory Bowel Disease Nurse, a Specialty Doctor and a Specialist Registrar who rotates annually from Health Education North West based in Merseyside. The current Gastroenterologist is a highly experienced trainer closely involved as Chair of the Training and Education Committee for Gastroenterology in the area and will encourage applicants’ development in clinical gastroenterology and teaching as required.
Southport & Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust serves a population of 260,000. The Trust is happy to consider flexible working arrangements and extended days to deliver a desirable work life balance, support professional goals and personal development.
