Working for Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust offers all the benefits of coast and country living with the convenience of big city life.
We have miles of unspoilt coastline on our doorstep, attractive commuter towns, picturesque villages and stunning countryside all within easy reach. Excellent transport links mean the vibrant, historic city of Liverpool is only a short journey away. Shops, bars, restaurants, museums, galleries, a World Heritage listed waterfront and, of course, two Premiership football teams makes this a destination for travellers from across the world.
The University of Liverpool has awarded us the status of University Clinical Education Centre in recognition of the high standard of training provided for students on placement to the Trust.
We pride ourselves in providing safe, clean and friendly care, and recruit to our SCOPE values. We also offer a range of family friendly options to staff.
Job overview
An exciting opportunity has become available to join our growing Gastroenterology department at Southport and Ormskirk NHS hospital trust. Our hard-working and forward-thinking team are keen to develop the service and would welcome similar minded candidates to join our department.
Applicants will require Basic Medical Qualification M.R.C.P. or equivalent, to be on the specialist register with a CCT in General Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology or within 6 months of achieving this.
Main duties of the job
We work in a rotation pattern with time both on and off the ward. The Gastroenterology ward (11 B) is a 27 bed units with an experienced team. Whilst on-ward, we run an advice and guidance type service for referrals in a hot-week style model, whilst also covering In-patient Endoscopy with the aid of our therapeutic non-medical Endoscopist.
Whilst Off-ward, Outpatient Clinics and Endoscopy services occur on both sites, with the timetable planned to avoid as much travel between sites as possible. Most Endoscopy happens at the Ormskirk site with within the spacious and recently updated Treatment Centre, but high risk or complex procedures will be performed on the Southport site.
We are expecting a new Endoscopy suite at the Southport site with work to begin imminently. We have five non-medical Endoscopists that work over both sites, as part of an extended Gastroenterology team including Specialist Nurses in Inflammatory Bowel Disease, upper GI cancer and Alcohol.
Working for our organisation
We work closely in the region with other hospitals, was established links with both Liverpool University Hospitals and the Cheshire and Mersey Endoscopy Network. This collaborative approach has led to much closer working with benefits for all involved. We would be keen to continue and develop further links to improve services over the coming years.
