Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic, proficient and experienced echocardiographer to join our friendly echocardiography team. BSE accreditation in Adult Transthoracic Echo is essential, experience of paediatric echocardiography would be an advantage. All candidates should be on the voluntary RCCP register.


You will work alongside a team of Cardiac Physiologists performing and reporting Echo’s, Dysynchrony Echo’s, and assisting in TOE’s and Bubble Echoes. Experience of Stress Echo and Contrast Echo would be an advantage. The department has several G.E Echo machines and an EchoPac reporting station.


You should also have experience to perform and report ETT”s, Ambulatory Tape Monitors, BP monitors, ECGs and basic Respiratory Function Tests (experience in Full Respiratory Studies would be an advantage).


You will also be involved in the supervision and training of physiologists, doctors and nurses and must be committed to continually improving your professional skills.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To perform comprehensive and high quality echocardiograms, ensuring that the British Society of Echocardiography guidelines are maintained, up to date and relevant to current clinical and technical practice.

Work as an independent practitioner, producing written clinical reports offering differential diagnosis to assist clinicians in patient management.

Work in other areas of clinical physiology as required, performing highly specialist complex investigations and to supervise, analyse and interpret a wide range of procedures autonomously.

Undertake the role of Risk and Infection Control Lead for the Service.

Line management responsibility of Specialised Clinical Physiologists.
