Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust provides healthcare in hospital and the community to 258,000 people across Southport, Formby and West Lancashire.
Acute care is provided at Southport and Formby District General Hospital and Ormskirk and District General Hospital. This includes adults’ and children’s accident and emergency services, intensive care and a range of medical and surgical specialities. Women’s and children’s services, including maternity, are provided at Ormskirk hospital.
The North West Regional Spinal Injuries Centre at Southport hospital provides specialist care for spinal patients from across the North West, North Wales and the Isle of Man.
The Trust also provides sexual health services for the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton.
Southport & Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust is in the process of expanding its Specialty Doctor workforce within Emergency Medicine.
The successful candidate will be a front-line doctor for the reception and management of all emergencies as they present to the department, working in close co-operation with colleagues in other specialties.
The Emergency Department at Southport sees over 50,000 patients per year, with a wide range of medical and surgical patients as well as trauma conditions, providing the opportunity for the postholder to gain a wide experience in these aspects of emergency work. The Paediatric Emergency Department is based at Ormskirk District General Hospital. All senior medics within Emergency Medicine undertake some clinical sessions on the Ormskirk site in order to maintain paediatric competencies.
The Department is a recognised Trauma Unit and participates actively in the Cheshire and Mersey Trauma Network. Support is available for members of the Department to undertake ATLS training.
There is an established Hospital Alcohol Liaison Team (HALT), onsite Mental Health Liaison Service 24/7, and strong working relations with partners.
The Department has won awards from NHSI and the Trust's annual Pride Awards, and is currently in the middle of a £1.25 million expansion.
The successful candidate will form part of a friendly and supportive department, which prides itself on good relationships between medical, nursing and other staff members.
