Job overview

Under the direction of the Registered Nurse the Health Care Assistant will 
work with all members of the multi disciplinary team to contribute to the 
provision of the highest standards of care delivery in undertaking personal 
care duties for patients in hospital/community

Main duties of the job

To assist in the development, implementation. and assessment of care plans,
to work within standard operating procedures as defined within each area.

To work under direction of the senior nurse who will be available for reference. 

To undertake and develop a specified range of clinical skills appropriate to the speciality with appropriate training to be able to at times use own initiative delivering patient care, with supervision available.

Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust provides healthcare in hospital and the community to 258,000 people across Southport, Formby and West Lancashire.

Acute care is provided at Southport and Formby District General Hospital and Ormskirk and District General Hospital. This includes adults’ and children’s accident and emergency services, intensive care and a range of medical and surgical specialities. Women’s and children’s services, including maternity, are provided at Ormskirk hospital.

The North West Regional Spinal Injuries Centre at Southport hospital provides specialist care for spinal patients from across the North West, North Wales and the Isle of Man.

The Trust also provides sexual health services for the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post will be based on Maternity Ward but may require movement throughout the Maternity Department to meet the needs of the service.

Hours will be 37.5hrs per week worked across a 24hour 7 day per week service.
