Locum Consultant General Anaesthetist with Special Interest in Maternity

Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust provides healthcare in hospital and the community to 258,000 people across Southport, Formby and West Lancashire.
Acute care is provided at Southport and Formby District General Hospital and Ormskirk and District General Hospital. This includes adults’ and children’s accident and emergency services, intensive care and a range of medical and surgical specialities. Women’s and children’s services, including maternity, are provided at Ormskirk hospital.
The North West Regional Spinal Injuries Centre at Southport hospital provides specialist care for spinal patients from across the North West, North Wales and the Isle of Man.
The Trust also provides sexual health services for the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton.
The trust is looking to expand its elective surgical capacity and following appointment of a new senior management team, is looking to deliver clinical services fit for the 21st century. In keeping with this vision of aspiring to deliver excellence, the trust is actively canvassing to reconfigure the current service provision, so all clinical services are on a single site, rather than the current 2 site model.
We are looking to recruit anaesthetists and intensivists, whose clinical leadership abilities will help shape the future direction of the clinical service provision within the trust. There are 3 full-time general posts, with a range of surgical specialty interests including colo-rectal surgery, trauma and orthopaedics, general surgery, gynaecology, urology and day-case ENT.
The successful candidate for the post in Pain Medicine will form part of the team of 3-consultants providing pain medicine services for the people of North Sefton and West Lancashire. They will be integral in developing the hospital based chronic pain service, as well as supporting pain management in the supra-regional spinal injury unit, located within the trust. The service also enjoys a working relationship with the nearby Tertiary Pain Management Clinic at the Walton Centre.
On call duties currently include providing anaesthetic services for emergency surgery, maternity, paediatric emergencies for stabilisation and transfer, ICU cover on a 1 in 8 basis.
All applicants must be either on the GMC Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining their CCT award at the time of interview.

The Department of Anaesthesia consists of 18 Consultants, 1 Associate Specialists, 13 Specialty Doctors, 3 ST3’s, 8 core trainees including an ACCS trainee providing an Anaesthetic service to the Trust .
