Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated, confident midwife with proven leadership skills to join the senior leadership team at Southport and Ormskirk Hospital as Clinical Lead Midwife for the Maternity Assessment Unit (MAU).  This area includes Triage, Pregnancy Assessment Unit and Midwife led urgent 3rd trimester ultrasound scanning.

The post holder will have overall clinical responsibility for the  MAU will be able to demonstrate excellent personnel and professional skills.  The ability to lead the service forward  implementing effective programmes of care for women attending Triage and PAU including the implementation of the BSOTS model of care for triage.

The post holder will also provide line management of staff working within the area, will participate in the Maternity bleepholder rota and will deputise for the Maternity Matron where required.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will carry responsibility for the line management of staff allocated to the Maternity Assessment Unit (MAU), incorporates Maternity Triage and the Pregnancy Assessment Unit.

They will be accountable for the smooth running and maintenance of standards in their clinical area of responsibility. They will be responsible for providing leadership based on current evidence based practice and will work closely with the other clinical leads, shift leader, Matrons and Obstetricians to ensure an optimum level of safe and effective care throughout the Maternity services.

Will work clinically to maintain own competence and credibility.

Work collaboratively with the practice development midwife to ensure clinical training needs of staff are identified and required learning is supported. Work collaboratively with specialist midwives to ensure a quality evidence based service.

Participate in the development and implementation of relevant guidelines ensuring evidence based and best practice.  Ensure compliance with internal and external healthcare standards.
